So, I’m kind of a coconut water snob. I’m just putting it out there.

But in my defense, I’ve tried a lot of coconut water. A few good ones and a whole lot of really really bad ones. So, if you’ve ever been interested in trying coconut water or are looking for a new one to try. Its your lucky day! After two years or relentless taste testing, I have complied and refined a list of the best coconut water for your drinking pleasure.

C2O
Ingredients: 100% Natural Coconut Water
Origin: Thailand

This was actually the very first coconut water I tried and liked. By this point, I had already tried several popular brands of coconut water and was discouraged that I liked none of them. I contemplated ending my coco water travels, but C2O was like the beacon of light amidst a storm at sea that kept me going on my coco journey.

C2O has a strong coconut flavor and has a slightly cloudy appearance with a yellow tint in comparison to other brands. It’s relatively affordable, as far a coconut water goes, and works well as a water or juice substitute in smoothies. On occasion I even use C2O as a base for my protein shakes post-workout instead of water.

CoCo libre
Ingredients: 100% Organic Coconut Water from Concentrate, Natural flavors (an extract of fruits & vegetables. Non-allergenic and organic compliant)
Origin: Organic Certified Fields on an Asian Island

First of all, the name itself is rather curious, CoCo Free or Free CoCo? Neither really are accurate, the product contains coconuts and you definitely have to pay for it, but in its defense, it’s probably the most affordable out of all the coconut water I’m featuring.

CoCo libre has a clean, fresh taste with a light coconut flavor and the water itself has teeny tiny coconut particles in a relatively clear liquid. I personally think the coconut particles are a nice touch, they make me really happy when I see them in my glass. It’s the little things.

Trader Joe’s Coconut Water
Ingredients: Coconut Water
Origin: Thailand

This is a recent find. I came across it accidentally while grocery shopping, and was instantly impressed after tasting it. The only problem is, it’s so hard to find. It’s never in stock. After initial purchase I have gone back 6 times between 4 different locations and no luck. However on my seventh visit, at the initial location that I discovered the coveted coconut water, I struck gold and basically got so excited I emptied the shelf. I apologize to all the parched patrons at the Trader Joe’s Campbell, I bought all your coconut water.

The label states that its 100% Pure Single Origin Coconut Water. It has a rather opaque liquid and has a mild flavor with a lime aftertaste. Am I crazy? If you’ve tried this coconut water, leave me a comment and let me know if you had the same experience.

INVO
Ingredients: Pure Coconut Water
Origin: Thailand

To be honest, I bought this purely based on the fact that I was having withdrawal from not being able to find the Trader Joe’s Coconut Water. At first glance they look extremely similar. Same packaging, same opaque liquid, but that’s where the similarities end friends.

The flavor of this coconut water is completely different from the Trader Joe’s brand. It actually taste the most similar to Harmless Harvest. Its has a very fresh, crisp, clean taste which I prefer and totally trumps all the ones featured above.

Harmless Harvest
Ingredients: 100% Organic Coconut Water
Origin: Thailand

Where do I even begin? This coconut water, by far, is the most superior and clearly my favorite out of all the coconut waters, on all the shelves, of all the grocery stores in all the land. Refreshing, clean, crisp, complex flavor. It’s as good, if not better, than drinking the fresh juice of a young coconut.

As the packages suggest, this is 100% raw, never heated, cold-pressed coconut water. Meaning, it has more nutrients and remarkable flavor. It’s the crème de la crème of coconut water.

…and there you have it. The good, the better and the best. Did I miss anything? If so, let me know.

  1. INVO and Trader Joe’s are from the same company. I wonder if the taste difference varies with the coconuts they use? They are produced by the CHIC Group (CHIC Foods Thailand) using the same equipment.
