The Juice Cleanse

TJC1.5
Friend or foe? The ever so popular juice cleanse have taken on quite a cult following.

And after the food wreckage that I call the ‘holidays’ and getting a mild case of the evil bronchitis, I figure it was time to cleanse my system of all the gingerbread cookies, eggnog and sickness I had harbored in my body for the last month or so.

Firstly, I’d like to thank Joe Cross and his documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead for increasing awareness and propelling the juicing phenomenon. After watching his documentary on Netflix, I immediately purchased a juicer the following morning.

However, as much as I love juicing. It’s not something I could do every day for the rest of my life. Its a process and take a lot time and effort, which isn’t something I always have readily available.

Conveniently, juice establishments have been popping-up everywhere so now I can opted for purchasing cold-pressed juice when I simply want to do a 1- 3 day detox.

Thus, I’m sharing with you my favorite juice cleanse; as well as, some helpful tools and tips to keep you from jumping ship midday due to hunger deprivation. Better known as, “when hangry attacks!” because we all know what it’s like to lose complete control of rationally when we’re famished.

With that said, no one single juice cleanse will work for everyone, nor am I claiming that this cleanse is safe and nutritionally balanced for everyone’s specific diet. I am not an expert or a nutritionist, I am simply sharing with you what works for me and perhaps it might work for you.

So.. let’s get on with it, shall we?

I’ve tried a lot of cold-pressed juice and by far Pressed Juicery is my favorite. It seems they have perfected healthy juice that taste good, not just juice that taste healthy.

Why cold-pressed, you say?

Well, theoretically when juice is heated it looses some of the nutrients. Thus, by cold-pressing juice you get to keep all the nutrients as if you were consuming them in their raw state.

Now, on with the juice!

Now, here are some tips and tools for a successful juice cleanse:

one | don’t starve yourself

If your hungry drink more juice. Most people, myself included, usually fail at juice cleanses because they are not consuming enough.

So, if its your first time trying a juice cleanse make sure you have an ample amount of juice to last you throughout the day! Better too much juice, than succumbing to the hangry monster.

two | liquids, liquids, liquids!

Just because you’re drinking liquids doesn’t mean you should neglect drinking water. Make sure to keep yourself hydrated. Perhaps, get fancy and invest in some electrolyte enhanced water.

But sometimes, water just isn’t enough. Then try raw coconut water! Its rich in antioxidant and electrolytes, and bound to revitalize you when you’re feeling a bit sluggish.

How about tea, you say? As long as its decaffeinated. If you’re feeling restless or your stomach feels unsettled, drink some ginger tea to help decompress and alleviate any stomach discomfort.

three | prep & post

Don’t binge eat before or after your cleanse.

Several days before starting your cleanse you should slowly attempt to cut out sugar, dairy, meat, alcohol, caffeine, nuts & wheat. You don’t want to shock your system with a drastic change to your diet.

After the cleanse is over, you can’t just go back to eating pizza and ice cream. Instead, try to slowly incorporate things back into your diet.

I hope this was somewhat informative. Best of luck and happy juicing!

  1. Been thinking of doing a juice fast and these drinks sound delicious. Don’t think I could do more than one day, though. LOL
