Sick Day Necessities

SDN2

Although autumn is my absolute favorite season, it’s almost inevitable that I get sick during this time of year and as fate would have it, I’ve been feeling poorly these last several days. Fantastic, I know.

There’s just nothing quite like a sore throat, stuffy nose and mild cough to help you jump-start your morning.

However, as annoying and painful being sick is, there is a silver lining. Eventually, you will recover. But until then, here a few of my sick day necessities that may be of use to you the next time you’re feeling under the weather.

Kleenex Cool Touch
Let me just start by saying that these tissues are magic. No seriously. These tissues are brilliant.

You see, I’m kind of an agressive nose blower, sneezer, cougher.. you get the idea. Anyhow, most tissues tend to rip up my upper lip, leaving it dry and flakey. It’s not a pretty picture.

But these tissues are cool on contact and are quite plush feeling. Also, its enriched with aloe and moisturizers so my upper lip doesn’t look like a flaming dry rash as I continue to blow my nose.

Harney & Sons | Ginger Tea
– Caffeine Free
– Contains soothing properties
– Improves absorption of essential nutrients
– Relieves throat and nose congestion.

This tea basically ticks all the sick day boxes. It contains ginger root, lemon peel, crystalized ginger and black pepper. I drink gallons of this tea whenever I’m feeling even the slightest bit under the weather.

I definitely suggest adding it to your tea arsenal in case of emergency.

Fresh | Sugar Lip Treatment
Made in France
– Gluten Free
– Paraben Free
– Sulfate Free
– Phthalates Free

I normally have dry lips, but when I’m sick it’s on a whole ‘nother level. My lips get so dry they’re practically sandpaper. Its serious. I use this lip treatment daily, however when I’m poorly I reapply every 2-3 hours.

Its enriched with antioxidant, fights free-radicals, protects against UV rays (in the rare case that you actually leave your bed) and nourishes your lips, leaving them supple and lightly fragranced of lemon and brown sugar.

I’m thinking I might need to upgrade to the advance therapy lip treatment soon.

Kotobuki Owl Mug
Made in Japan
– Stoneware
– Microwave Safe

Sometimes, you just need a cute mug that make you happy and this mug makes me very happy. His name is Woodrow. I’m not quite sure why, but I’m pretty sure it was from my Anthropologie days. Regardless, it seems rather fitting.

Woodrow is my sick day companion. Keeping me company, providing me with endless amounts of ginger tea and always mocking me with those big eyes.

He makes sick days better and I’m pretty obsessed with him. I have about a dozen of his siblings hanging out in my cupboard as well.

Santa Cruz Organic Apple Sauce
Product of Canada
– Non-GMO verified
– USDA Organic

When I’m sick I don’t have much of an appetite and texture plays a big part in what I eat, being that, I probably can’t taste anything.

I don’t normally eat applesauce, however when I’m sick I can’t get enough of it.

Applesauce is high in fiber, helps boost your immune system and with honey graham crackers, I’m basically set for the duration of my sick leave. Just wake me up when the tea is ready.

Forager Project | Greens C or Greens & Pineapple
– USDA Organic
– Cold-Pressed. Never Heated

Contains: Cucumbers, Kale, Pineapple, Spinach, Oranges, Lemons, Matcha Green Tea

When I get sick I like to pack on the nutrients.

I strongly believe that most of the time I get sick because my diet hasn’t been up to par, and therefore wasn’t strong enough to fight a good fight. So, I try to combat my sickness with nutrient dense liquids.

If you’ve never had a green juice before or hate the taste of kale, this drink is not for you. It’s quite bitter, but when you drink it you can feel the nutrients revitalize your body.

I suggest treating it like wheatgrass and taking a shot of orange juice after each big gulp.

Audrey Hepburn DVD Collection
Includes: Sabrina, Roman Holiday & Breakfast at Tiffany’s

There is nothing quite like a classic movie to brighten up my spirits and Sabrina is one of my favorites. Roman Holiday is fantastic, however I’m not as partial to Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but I usually never get that far anyhow.

Its a great collection and I’ve watched all three movies dozens of times over.

Well, I’m off to bed now with Woodrow and a cup of tea. Cheers!
